Google is the first destination that comes on mind when you need to search information on the web. To be honest, I cannot imagine searching for something without asking the good old Google. However, there are few more search engines that want to steal Google's show. We are talking about Blekko and DuckDuckGo,
two search engines that are Google's direct competitors and have the best chances of completing their biggest goal.
They still have long way to go because it's not that easy to compete in the world where Google is the king. They are looking forward to offering something that others can't - peace of mind.
DuckDuckGo
DuckDuckGo was founded in 2007 by Gabriel Weinberg. This search engine takes its results from various sources, while using its best weapon - its' pro-privacy stance. Weinberg said that if people need to choose between great results and great results plus privacy, they will choose the second option. Their reputation is built on its privacy policies. Blekko has been focused on giving broader approach of your search. It shows results while indexing the web on its own. It meets user's intention giving them less assumptions. Lindahl said that if this search engine wants to be more successful they must do more than just providing users with results. He added that the company doesn't compete with anyone because it uses friendly connections with alternatives.
I have used them for a week now just to see how they will react on my searches. I seem to always go back to Google again but if something happened to this major search engine, I know where to search for alternatives.
